Rare Caracal Cat Spotted for the First Time in Pakistan’s Cholistan Desert

In a major moment for Pakistan’s wildlife conservation, a rare caracal cat has been spotted for the first time in the Cholistan Desert. This elusive wild feline, known for its tufted ears and powerful hunting skills, was seen near a herd of chinkara deer — a truly breathtaking scene captured in the heart of the desert.

The caracal is listed as an endangered species in Pakistan and is incredibly hard to spot, especially in dry regions like Cholistan. Experts say this rare sighting proves that conservation efforts and wildlife monitoring in the area are making a real difference.

Mujahid Kaleem, Assistant Conservator Wildlife in Rahim Yar Khan, called it one of the most unforgettable moments of his career. The Wildlife Department has recorded the sighting for future research to help protect this beautiful and threatened species.
