India Suspends Indus Waters Treaty After Deadly Kashmir Attack

Following the deadly Pahalgam attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir, which killed 26 people, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan and shut down the Attari border crossing. Pakistani nationals under the Saarc Visa Exemption Scheme have been given 48 hours to leave India. Tensions are rising fast, and diplomatic ties are being reduced. Indian defence advisers have been told to exit Pakistan.

India blames Pakistan for supporting cross-border terrorism, though no evidence has been shared publicly. Pakistan has strongly denied involvement and called the incident a false flag operation. Indian leaders have promised a “loud and clear” response, further deepening the crisis between the two countries.

In response, Pakistan condemned the attack and held a National Security Committee meeting to assess the situation. Politicians from across the spectrum criticized India’s actions as rushed and politically driven. Many believe the suspension of the water treaty violates international agreements.

Former diplomats and analysts in Pakistan described the move as “water aggression”, urging the government to raise the issue at the United Nations. Calls for calm and dialogue continue amid fears of further escalation.
