Young Man Swept Away at Tapur Dam, Rescue Operation Underway
TAPUR, INDIA: A young man was swept away by strong currents at Tapur Dam after attempting a dangerous stunt, according to initial reports from local authorities.
Witnesses said the victim appeared to be under the influence of alcohol when he entered the water. The powerful current carried him away before any rescue attempt could succeed.
Following the incident, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Civil Defense launched a full-scale search operation to locate the individual. The rescue efforts were continuing as of late Wednesday.
Officials have once again urged people to refrain from risky stunts in and around dams and rivers, warning that fast-moving waters can quickly prove fatal.
Earlier Incidents
Authorities across India have repeatedly issued advisories cautioning against swimming, fishing, or performing stunts near dams and rivers. In July, two young men drowned in the Narmada River after underestimating the strength of the current, while similar incidents were reported near the Tehri Dam earlier this year.Rescue agencies say that despite regular awareness drives, reckless behavior and lack of safety precautions remain major causes of water-related accidents during the monsoon season.
