Popular Turkish content creator Turkan Atay, known for her Urdu-language content and followed by over 850,000 fans on Instagram, has come forward with serious allegations against Pakistani fashion designer Maria B. Atay claims she was not fully paid for her work on a fashion shoot organized by Maria B’s team in Turkey earlier this year.
Atay says the deal was clear: she would be paid per outfit to cover the shoot’s production costs. However, despite completing the project, she says only part of the payment came through. In a recent video message, Atay accused Maria B’s team of delaying payments, changing the payment terms later, and even deleting messages after her husband tried to intervene. “They’ve wasted my time and treated me unfairly,” she said.
This isn’t the first time Maria B has faced criticism connected to Turkey. Last year, she was caught in a plagiarism controversy over her “Palestine Collection.” The collection used strong symbols of Palestinian resistance, but was called out for allegedly copying an artwork originally created by Turkish artist Hacı Balina Atölye. The image had already been shared on platforms like Palestine Quebec, and Pakistani artist Leena Ghani publicly accused Maria B of copying it without credit.
Maria B later responded on Instagram, saying the design was used “unintentionally” and blaming the fast-moving nature of digital content for the mistake. Still, many critics saw the move as profiting off a humanitarian crisis.
