Surge in Viral Infections Alarms Lahore as COVID Concerns Resurface

Lahore is experiencing a sharp rise in viral infections, with hundreds of people reporting symptoms like high fever, persistent coughing, and body aches over the past three weeks. The unexpected spike has sparked concern among healthcare professionals about a potential resurgence of COVID-19, though official testing remains scarce.

Hospitals and clinics across the city—both public and private—are overwhelmed with patients exhibiting flu-like symptoms. However, the decline in formal COVID-19 testing has made it challenging to determine whether the virus is playing a significant role in the outbreak.

Professor Dr. Irfan Malik, Head of Pulmonology at Lahore Medical University, emphasized the uncertainty, stating, “Coronavirus is spreading, patients are coming to hospitals, but COVID-19 tests are not being conducted anymore.” The lack of testing has left both the medical community and the public in the dark about the real cause of the health emergency.
