Sukkur Floods – Boat Capsizes in Sadhuja, Cargo Lost in Indus River

SUKKUR, Sept 12 — In Sukkur’s flood-stricken katcha area of Sadhuja near Panu Aqil, a boat carrying villagers and goods overturned due to the powerful currents of the Indus River. Fortunately, all passengers managed to swim to safety, but the cargo — including a motorbike and sacks of grain — was lost in the waters.

The Indus remains in high flood at Guddu Barrage and medium flood at Sukkur Barrage, forcing ongoing evacuations from katcha settlements. Residents of these riverine areas report little to no visible government relief despite rising waters submerging crops and farmlands across the belt.

Locals fear that without urgent intervention, both their livelihoods and shelters will be wiped out. Farmers in particular are facing devastating losses as the standing crops across hundreds of acres remain underwater.
