Severe Winds Prompt Safety Warning in Northern China

China’s state media has issued an unusual advisory, urging individuals weighing under 50kg to remain indoors as powerful winds sweep through the country’s northern regions.

Between April 11 and 13, the Beijing Meteorological Service elevated its wind warning to orange — the second-highest alert level — with gusts reaching speeds of up to 150 km/h anticipated in Beijing, Tianjin, and parts of Hebei. These intense winds, originating from Mongolia, were described as exceptionally strong and potentially hazardous.

In response, authorities shut down parks and outdoor spaces, postponed various public events, and suspended over 150 train services in the Beijing area as a precaution.
