PMD Forecasts Thunderstorms, Hail, and Rain Across Northern Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an important weather update for Islamabad, predicting partly cloudy skies along with chances of thunderstorms, hailstorms, and rain in surrounding areas.

As per the Met Office, temperatures in the capital are expected to peak at 34°C today.

Rainfall is also anticipated in northern regions including upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, with some districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa facing the possibility of heavy rain and hail, according to PMD’s latest forecast.

In stark contrast, Sindh and Balochistan will continue to experience hot and dry weather, accompanied by gusty winds.

Morning temperatures recorded in major cities were as follows: Islamabad and Quetta at 18°C, Lahore and Karachi at 27°C, Peshawar at 20°C, Gilgit at 13°C, Murree at 9°C, and Muzaffarabad at 16°C.

The forecast for Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir predicts cloudy skies with chances of rain, wind, and thunderstorms—with possible isolated heavy rainfall or hailstorms in areas including Srinagar, Leh, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, and Baramula. Jammu is likely to see partly cloudy conditions with chances of thunderstorms and isolated hail.

Earlier this week, Islamabad and surrounding areas were hit by sudden heavy rains and hailstorms, causing significant disruption. Large hailstones damaged vehicles, solar panels, and other infrastructure.

In Landi Kotal, Torkham, and nearby regions, heavy downpours triggered flash floods, stranding cargo vehicles and temporarily closing the Pak-Afghan highway due to strong winds and waterlogging.
