DOHA, September 11, 2025 — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid a one-day solidarity visit to Qatar on Thursday following recent Israeli airstrikes, meeting Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for Doha.
Shehbaz strongly condemned the strikes, calling them a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and international law. He assured the Emir that Pakistan stands firmly with Qatar during this period of heightened regional tensions. Both leaders stressed the need for unity in the Muslim world and collective action to counter aggression in the Gulf.
Alongside the solidarity message, the discussions also touched on economic and energy cooperation. Shehbaz emphasized the importance of long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) contracts to help Pakistan overcome its energy crisis, while also encouraging greater Qatari investment in Pakistan’s infrastructure and agriculture sectors.
The Emir praised Pakistan’s role in regional stability and highlighted the contribution of Pakistani expatriate workers in Qatar. Both sides agreed to expand cooperation in political, economic, and humanitarian fields, with the Emir reaffirming Doha’s continued support for Islamabad in overcoming its financial difficulties.
Analysts see the visit as a diplomatic gesture of solidarity but also as part of Pakistan’s broader push to strengthen partnerships with Gulf allies amid economic and security challenges at home.
