Netanyahu Declares ‘No Palestinian State’ as Settlement Expansion Moves Ahead

JERUSALEM, September 11, 2025 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared there will “never” be a Palestinian state, announcing approval of a major settlement expansion near Jerusalem that has drawn swift international criticism.

The plan includes thousands of housing units in Maale Adumim and extends into the sensitive E1 corridor. Analysts warn that construction in this area could split the West Bank in two, effectively making a contiguous Palestinian state impossible.

Netanyahu defended the project as vital to Israel’s security and long-term strategy. Palestinians, however, denounced it as a violation of international law. The Palestinian Authority pledged to intensify diplomatic efforts at the United Nations, pressing for recognition of Palestine if Israel refuses to halt settlement activity and agree to a ceasefire in Gaza.

International Condemnation

The United Nations, Britain, and France condemned the decision, warning it undermines peace efforts and erodes the two-state framework. Human rights groups described the expansion as “a direct blow to peace,” while Washington voiced concern but stopped short of punitive measures. Currently, more than 700,000 Israeli settlers live in occupied territory, and the growing population under Netanyahu’s leadership has made prospects for a two-state solution increasingly remote.
