Massive Protest in Sindh Against Controversial Canals Project

A major protest rally against the canals project was organized by the Sindh River Bachao Tehreek Committee, beginning at Poonam Chowk and ending with a large sit-in at Wadhu Wah on the National Highway leading to Sukkur.

Thousands of demonstrators, including a notable number of women, marched from Naseem Nagar Chowk to the highway, where they staged a sit-in on both lanes and raised slogans in opposition to the project.

Participants, representing various political parties under the Sindh River Protection Committee, carried banners and placards denouncing the canals initiative. Political groups involved in the rally included the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamaat-e-Islami, Qaumi Awami Tehreek, and Awami Tehreek.

The protest caused major traffic disruptions, halting movement between Hyderabad, Karachi, and Sukkur, and resulting in long vehicle lines on the National Highway and Motorway.

In a separate demonstration, members of the transgender community also rallied against the canals project, marching from the Old Campus to the Hyderabad Press Club. A large number of transgender activists participated, chanting slogans and demanding the project be scrapped.
