Flood-Hit Family in Jhang Unable to Transfer Deceased Woman’s Body Amid Rescue Shortages

JHANG, Sept 4: A grieving family in Pakka Wala, near Jhang, was unable to transfer the body of a deceased woman due to the unavailability of a rescue boat, according to local residents.

The incident occurred amid the ongoing flood crisis that has devastated large parts of Punjab, leaving thousands stranded and dependent on limited relief operations. Locals said the tragedy underscores the lack of timely rescue facilities in several flood-hit areas.

Community members expressed frustration over the absence of adequate boats and personnel, warning that without stronger disaster management, even basic humanitarian needs such as burials remain unmet.

Heavy monsoon rains and water releases from upstream rivers have caused extensive flooding across Punjab in recent weeks. More than 200,000 people have already been relocated by Rescue 1122, with operations continuing as river flows remain dangerously high.

Officials say over 2 million people have been affected by the disaster, while humanitarian groups are urging the government to increase accessibility and resources for remote areas, where rescue services remain scarce.
