Indian Forces Kill Senior Maoist Commander

RAIPUR, September 15, 2025 — Indian security forces killed a senior Maoist commander along with two other rebels in a gun battle on Monday, officials confirmed, marking a major blow to the decades-long Naxalite insurgency.

The operation comes as the government intensifies its all-out offensive to eliminate the last strongholds of the movement, which traces its roots to a 1967 peasant uprising in the village of Naxalbari.

The Maoist rebellion — often described as India’s longest-running internal conflict — has claimed the lives of more than 12,000 rebels, security personnel, and civilians over nearly six decades. Authorities say the fresh crackdown aims to finally dismantle what remains of the once-sprawling insurgency.
