Vuelta a España Final Abandoned After Pro-Palestine Protests

MADRID, September 15, 2025 — The grand finale of the Vuelta a España was abandoned after massive pro-Palestinian protests erupted in Madrid against the participation of the Israel-Premier Tech team. Demonstrators chanting “they will not pass” stormed the route, overturning barriers and clashing with police.

Spain’s government confirmed two arrests and 22 injured police officers, as over 1,000 security personnel were deployed, the largest operation since the NATO summit in Madrid. Organisers cancelled the podium ceremony, forcing Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard to celebrate his victory from inside his team car. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez voiced support for the demonstrators, praising the Spanish people for mobilising in solidarity with Palestine.
