Punjab Launches Crime Control Department to Tackle Organised Crime

The Punjab government has launched a major initiative to fight organised crime with the creation of the Crime Control Department (CCD). The department, approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, will be a specialised unit within the Punjab Police. It aims to address major issues like drug trafficking, land grabbing, extortion, and kidnapping across the province.

Modeled after the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), the CCD will focus on proactive crime prevention and work to dismantle criminal syndicates. The department will be led by AIG Sohail Zafar Chatha and will feature advanced surveillance technologies, including drones and a centralised crime data system.

With new dedicated police stations and elite units, the CCD will improve coordination with local police forces. The department promises specialised training for officers and a more secure environment for the people of Punjab.

This initiative is part of the Punjab government’s efforts to strengthen security and ensure justice for all. By using technology and modern policing methods, the government aims to create a safer and stronger Punjab.
